Collaboration! What a concept. There really are few things more exciting than seeing two artists you really like collaborate on a song together. It’s even better when it’s two artists that are polar opposites, like when FKA Twigs featured Rema on Jealousy (seriously, how random was that?). It feels sort of like combining two contrasting foods that go surprisingly well together-best feeling ever. The bottom line is, we love a good collaboration-so much that we just had to write an entire article about some of our favorite ones. Keep reading to find out if yours made the list!
Feeling- Ladipoe ft. BNXN
Everyone remembers where they were when this jam came out in May of 2021. Even if you didn’t like how you were feeling before you heard it, you definitely liked it after.
Arguably the song of the summer that year, “Feeling” stands out till this day as the epitome of chill, feel good music. Ladipoe and BNXN are the perfect duo, and together they craft a timeless collaboration that easily replicates the heady, intoxicating feeling of a dreamy night out.
Disturbing U- Darkoo & Ayra Starr
“Disturbing You” was definitely one for the books. We got a jam and a half to start, then platinum blonde Ayra and Darkoo in full glam? Definitely an era to remember.
This collab also gave us one of the most iconic Ayra Starr lines of all time, and for that we are grateful (don’t know about you but this author personally could not go 5 minutes without singing “even if na wheelbarrow carry me come I go still raise my shoulder”).
Wine- Rema & Yseult
Off Rema’s debut album Rave and Roses, “Wine” is a sweet, silky offering that is very aptly named. The collaboration was produced by London and features vocals from French singer-songwriter Yseult. Rema and Yseult’s vocals go together like red wine and dark chocolate, creating a truly decadent earworm.
P.S. French has never sounded sexier than it did on this song. We were definitely inspired to download Duolingo after listening to Yseult’s verse.
For Where?- Bayanni & Zerrydl
Towards the end of 2024, Bayanni set the internet on fire with “For Where”, a last minute screamer featuring 2024 breakout star Zerrydl. This sensational collab sparked several viral moments on social media-and lots of bottle breaking too. This unlikely pair prove to be model partners in crime, resulting in a roguish number that will have you feeling more daring than usual. (Avoid listening if you have a glass bottle or two in hand, if you know you know).
Ngozi- Crayon & Ayra Starr
First of all shout out to Ngozi wherever she is because without her we may have never gotten this exquisite tune. With a flawless beat courtesy of the one and only Sarz, “Ngozi” is definitely up there on the list of unforgettable Afrobeat love songs named after beautiful women. Crayon and Ayra Starr made absolute magic on this track and it is truly a blessing to our ears!
